Statement from U.S. Senator Jon S. Corzine on the Deadliest Day in Iraq for U.S. Forces

Wednesday, January 26, 2005

Washington, DC - United States Senator Jon S. Corzine (D-NJ), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, released the following statement after the deadliest day in Iraq for U.S. forces since the war began. Thirty-one Marines were killed in a helicopter crash near Iraq's border with Jordan, while four Marines were killed in combat in the Al-Anbar province. Two U.S. soldiers were killed in the Baghdad area.

"Today's tragic loss in Iraq of 37 American soldiers and Marines is a stunning reminder of the costs and sacrifices of war," Corzine said. "Words are insufficient to address the grief being felt by the loved ones of those who lost their lives today or the sadness felt by a heart-sick nation. No matter your position on the war, we all support our troops in the field and we each grieve for the loss of even a single American soldier. Our thoughts and our prayers are with the fallen and the loved ones they left behind."
